    Bizarre moment

    [edit]

I just saw a broken baby image appear below today’s current events. Though, the edit history doesn’t show it. I reset the page and it disappeared. So, does anyone why a broken baby appeared? KaijuEditor (talk) 22:22, 12 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This portal consists of several subpages, which are transcluded onto the portal's page. The particular issue you're describing was caused by the page Portal:Current events/2025 December 12. —andrybak (talk) 00:14, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Add Sudan famine to the "Ongoing events" section in "Topics in the news"

Similar to how Gaza war appears (timeline * genocide), how can we do the same for Sudan war (timeline * famine)?[1] Rockwizfan (talk) 13:02, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Change

In South Africa Army Helicopters rescue people stranded in three countries located in southern Africa with the floods killing more than 100 dead

    to

In [[Southern Africa]], over 100 people are killed amid ongoing regional flooding in [[South Africa]], [[Mozambique]], and [[Zimbabwe]]

or a transfiguration of the January 15 version with updated statistics and regions,

At least 19 people are killed and hundreds are evacuated across South Africa in flooding caused by torrential rains in several provinces, including Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Reasoning: I mean come on look at the original text.

FMRadio, thank you for taking the time to report this issue. This entry has already been edited a couple of minutes before your comment: Special:Diff/1333294192. You can copyedit the entry yourself further if you wish. On the page Portal:Current events, each box has a link "edit" in the top right corner, e.g. for the box "January 16, 2026 (Friday)". Hope this helps! —andrybak (talk) 22:43, 16 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Ah, I should’ve checked again before posting that. Thank you anyways! FMRadio :3(chat | edits | she/her) 22:55, 16 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Stray "="

    [edit]

Not sure if this is the right talk page to post, but there's a stray "=" after "American rock climber Alex Honnold free-solo climbs the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan, becoming the first person to ascend the skyscraper in that manner, after completing the 508 m (1,667 ft) climb in about 90 minutes during a livestreamed event". Anyone able to remove? Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:05, 26 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This was fixed in Special:Diff/1334969145. In the corresponding box on the portal page, just to the right of "January 25, 2026 (Sunday)", there are three links: "edit", "history", and "watch". Anyone can edit the news entries on the portal by clicking "edit" in the top right corner of the box for each day. —andrybak (talk) 21:44, 26 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks. I see there's now the stray text "{{Current events|year=2026|month=02|day=1|content=" and "}}". ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:05, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This issue was fixed in Special:Diff/1336036266.
Checking the history of the subpage "Portal:Current events/2026 February 1" (the date from the stray text) is the best way of figuring out what went wrong. On the page Portal:Current events, there is "history" link in the top right corner of every box, next to "edit". —andrybak (talk) 16:33, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal: integrate Current Events Portal into Wikipedia app

    [edit]
    Example design (Android)

This could make the Wikipedia app much more interesting and useful. I at least would start to use it again to browse around via its home feed.
It would also increase the use of this underrated portal which is relatively unknown with few people reading it regularly, thereby making all of your work more worth the effort (thanks for updating & maintaining this page!). Image on the right shows how it could look like.

See Wish305: A tile for the Current events portal in the Wikipedia app (voting open).
