[edit]- 13 January – The Intelligence and National Security Directorate announces the discovery of a plot to assassinate president Rodrigo Chaves Robles.[1]
- 22 January – The United States imposes sanctions on 10 Costa Rican individuals and entities for being part of a transnational crime network transporting cocaine from Colombia into the US.[2]
- 1 February – 2026 Costa Rican general election: Laura Fernández Delgado is elected president with 48.3% of the vote.[3]
